Here at Wiltgen Jewelers & Gift World, we are constantly looking for new ways to continue to provide state of the art services to our customers. This year is no exception, with the addition of our new “Craford Laser-Star” laser welding system. After integrating the “Laser” into our shop and having some time to become familiar with its functions we are asking how we ever got along without it!
One of the huge challenges in a custom jewelry manufacturing and repair shop is joining or fabricating metal without affecting sensitive surrounding areas. (i.e. previous solder joints and or gemstones.) It becomes very labor intensive to take the necessary precautions not to damage sensitive gems. It may require removing the gem or gems before performing the restoration. This may result in additional repairs and additional cost.
By contrast, the use of the “Laser” allows us to perform the most delicate operations with pinpoint accuracy while viewing through a 10x stereo microscope. And because only the exact point in which we want to fuse or fill is heated for a fraction of a second , we are able to hold the parts in our bare hands. The resulting weld is 264 times stronger than a traditional solder joint.
Eric just returned from training in Orlando. He underwent extensive study and hands on applications. He is now a certified “Craford-Laser-Star Jewelry Technician”. The possibilities are endless! We have been transported from the relative dark ages into the future with “Laser” technology. We are now able to design, manufacture and restore pieces that would otherwise be impossible. The “Laser even lets us work on plated antique and vintage jewelry. It allows for joining dissimilar metals. Taking Wiltgen Jewelers and gift world the next level of service.
